Pakistan Times Jammu & Kashmir Desk

SRINAGAR (IHK): In occupied Kashmir, cold wave has gripped Kashmir Valley following fresh snowfall in upper reaches including Gulmarg, Pahalgam and different parts of Ladakh region, KMS reports.

Meteorological department officials have predicted more rains and snow in the next two days.

Reports said that the upper reaches of valley including Farkian Gali, Sadna Top, Razdan pass, Tulail and Gurez along the Line of Control, Zojilla Pass in Kargil and Khardungla in Leh received fresh snowfall.

The plains received light showers dipping the temperature sharply. Snowfall was also reported in the mountains surrounding Uri sector.

As per reports the Mahaguns, Pissu top, Sheeshnag and Panjtarni also experienced light snowfall while Pahalgam witnessed season\'s coldest night, where temperature was recorded at -0.2 degree Celsius.

In Srinagar, and its adjoining areas, weather remained cloudy throughout the day and the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.5 degree Celsius, one degree above normal.

Yet another report says; people had their breakfast without bread Kashmiri roti in the Kashmir Valley as bakers went on an indefinite strike, demanding increase in the price besides subsidy on ingredients.

More than 30,000 workers of bakery shops (known as Kandur in Kashmiri) across the Valley went on indefinite strike on Saturday morning, protesting against the authorities cruel polices against them.

The bread makers went on an indefinite strike in Srinagar and other major towns of the valley, accusing the authorities of backtracking from the agreement regarding the increase in price.

The authorities had assured the bakers of revision of rates of bread within 10 days in view of sky rocketing rates of wheat and firewood used in Tandoor (clay oven), said a baker. We have called for indefinite strike to protest the strong-arm tactics by authorities, said President of Jammu and Kashmir Bakers Union, Abdul Majeed Sofi.

Abdul Hamid, a resident of Batamaloo area of Srinagar said; We had only namkeem tea [Kashmiri tea] in the morning as all bakery shops in our area were closed. However, some of the bakery shops resumed their work after increasing the cost of roti at Rs 4, an increase of 100 percent.

Terming the indefinite strike by the Valley bread makers as illegal, the Consumer Affairs and Public Administration authorities have warned the bakers of stern action if they did not call off the strike.

Talking to media men, CAPD spokesperson said the strike by bakers (Kandrus) is not justified. They should not create their own alternatives by going for unreasonable rate revision, he said.
