Forceful anti-India demonstrations in IHK
'Pakistan Times' Kashmir Desk

SRINAGAR (IHK): In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities imposed undeclared curfew in Srinagar and placed the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyet leaders under house arrest on Friday.

KMS reports that the leaders included Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Fazl Haq Qureshi and Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai. The restrictions were imposed to prevent anti-India demonstrations. Juma congregational prayers could not be held in the Central Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement in Srinagar said that the imposition of curfew and house arrests exposed Indian authorities’ frustration who were engaged in suppressing Kashmiris’ voice by undemocratic means.

Despite curfew restrictions forceful protests were held in Chanapura, Barzulla, Lal Bazar, Maisuma and Nowhatta areas of Srinagar. People took to the streets and observed complete shutdown in Sopore, Islamabad and Baramulla towns. At least 12 persons were injured when Indian troops resorted to brute force to disperse the demonstrators at Sopore.

The occupation authorities arrested in Narbal area the members of a delegation of the forum patronised by senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani. They were going to Bomai Sopore to express solidarity with the families of two youth killed by the troops, last Saturday.

Meanwhile, the illegally detained Kashmiris continued hunger strike for the fourth consecutive day, today, in Srinagar Central Jail. They have been protesting the inhuman treatment meted out to them by the jail authorities.
