Security Forces kill seven militants in Swat   
'Pakistan Times' NWFP Bureau

PESHAWAR: At least seven militants were killed and several injured during an exchange of firing with security forces in various parts of militancy-hit Swat district.

According to Swat Media Centre, five miscreants were killed during exchange of fire with troops in Moragai and Shalkho Sar areas of Tehsil Matta including their local commander.

Two miscreants were killed in another exchange of fire in Kabal. The weapons and ammunition of miscreants have also been destroyed.

Army Engineers in collaboration with National Highway Authority (NHA) are working round the clock to repair the damaged arched bridges near Sangota and Fiza Gat which were destroyed by the miscreants.

Repair work is likely to be completed within next 48 hours and traffic will be restored soon. A cheque was handed over to the bereaved family of Qari Muhammad Shoaib a journalist who died on November 8, 2008.

Brigadier Haroon Malik handed over the cheque worth Rs. Two lac to the members of local press club. The Journalists were assured that the bereaved family will be looked after and will not be left alone in this hour of need.

12 militants surrender in Bajaur And a report from Khar says that twelve tribal militants have surrendered to the authorities in Bajaur Agency on Monday.

Atmankhel tribe is holding a jirga to hand over the local militants who laid down their arm Monday before Political Administration. Salarzai and Mamond tribes are also holding separate anti-militants jirga in Bajaur Agency today (Monday).

Important decisions are being expected against the local militants in the two jirga. Strict security arrangements have been made by the local administration before the all-important jirga.

A large number of Levis personnel have been deployed. On the other hand, security forces carried out strikes on militants’ positions in Zorbandar and Sabagi areas of Khar.

However, there was no report of casualties. Helicopter gunships are doing aerial surveillance in various parts of the volatile agency. Meanwhile, most of the Afghan refugees are returning to their country on the second day of a three-day deadline given to them for leaving the Mamond tehsil. Afghan refugees are migrating in large number.

According to another report Salarzai and Mamond tribes were holding their separate anti-militants jirga in Bajaur Agency on Monday. Important decisions are being expected against the local militants in the two jirga.
