ISLAMABAD: President
Asif Ali Zardari will visit New York from September 22 to lead
Pakistan’s delegation at the annual meeting of the United
Nations General Assembly.
During his five day tour, he will address the UN General
Assembly besides holding important meetings on the sidelines
with world leaders, said Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah
Mahmood Qureshi while addressing reporters here at Foreign
Office on Thursday.
The Minister said President Zardari is also expected to meet
President Bush on the sidelines of UN General Assembly session
to discuss the current scenario.
The President is also expected to have a meeting with Indian
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Afghan President Hamid
Karzai and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.
The Foreign Minister said the President will undertake his
first official visit to China and dates for this visit are
being worked out.
And, a report from Washington says; President George W Bush
looks forward to discussing strengthening United States’
wide-ranging relationship with Pakistan during a meeting with
the new elected President Asif Ali Zardari on the margins of
UN General Assembly next week, the White House said Thursday.
“President Bush looks forward to meeting with the new
democratically elected President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari
on Tuesday September 23 in New York.
“The two leaders will discuss efforts to strengthen the
bilateral relationship, and build a long-term partnership
based on common values,” White House Press Secretary Dana
Perino said.
“President Zardari, President Bush are expected to focus on
cooperation on combating terrorism, strengthening the economy
and fostering democracy in Pakistan,” she added.
