Q'finals of International Junior Tennis Championship

ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Waqas Malak, Saurabh Singh, Shantanu Rajput and S. V. Abhishek qualified for the quarterfinals by beating their respective opponents in the second leg of Askari Bank ITF Pakistan International Junior Tennis Championship 2008 at PTF Tennis Complex here on Wednesday.

M. Waqas Malak eliminated fellow Pakistani Heera Ashiq in a thrilling three set match. Heera was leading 5-3 and 30 love in the final set but M. Waqas displayed excellent volley at the net and not only levelled the score 5 all but also won the final set at 7-5.He will meet 2nd seed Abhishek of India in the quarterfinals.

Shantanu Rajput of India also struggled to beat compariot Shikhar Kapur in another good match of three sets. Saurabh Singh winner of 1st leg outplayed Punn Bodhidatta of Thailand in straight sets 6-3,7-5. Second seed Abhishek beat Samir Iftikhar of Pakistan 6-3,6-2. All quarterfinals will start at 9:30 am. Thursday.

In the girls singles event Riddhi Hegde, Luksika Kumkhum, Vaniya Dangwal and Augustine Benito moved into the quarterfinals by beating their respective opponents in straight sets. Riddhi of India got walkover against top seed Sharmada Balu of India.

The 5th seed Kumkhum of Thailand was in excellent form and eliminated Maniy Nagpal without conceding a single game in both sets. Augustine Benito of Spain beat Meheq Khokhar of Pakistan without any resistance in straight sets 6-0,6-1.

7th seed Vaniya Dangwal eliminated easily her opponent Mametgliyeva Maya 6-3,6-0.

Pakistan No.1 Sarah Mahboob will face 2nd seed Tarimela while Natasha Afridi will face 4th seed Sheweta Rana in the quarterfinals Thursday.
