Pakistani imports decline by 11.81 percent

ISLAMABAD: Imports into the country during July 2008 decreased by 11.81 percent compared to imports during June 2008, the last month of previous financial year, according to provisional figures issued by Federal Bureau of Statistics here on Saturday.

Imports during the month under review were registered at $3.54 billion as compared to $4.02 billion during June 2008.

Exports from the country during the month of July also witnessed downward trend as it witnessed decrease of 6.77 percent by declining from $2.05 billion in June 2008 to $ 1.90 billion in July 2008.

As compared to the same period of the last financial year imports grew by 37.92 while exports were up by 29.48 percent.

The imports in July 2007 were recorded at $ 2.57 billion while the exports were registered at $ 1.47 billion.

The overall trade deficit during the month of July was recorded at $ 1.64 billion, the provisional figures said.
