LONDON (UK): A thirty five
member strong delegation of British Muslims from the UK will be attending
the 4th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) to be held in Kuwait from April
29 to May 1.
The Muslim Council of Britain’s Business and Economic Committee has arranged
a delegation of over 35 businessmen and professionals, including bankers,
lawyers and analysts to attend this year’s meeting in Kuwait which will
bring together delegates from more than sixty different countries around the
world.
The theme of this year’s WIEF conference is “Islamic Countries: Partners in
the Global Development”. One of the aims of the Forum is to promote
partnership between Muslim and non-Muslim businessmen by forging
co-operation across borders among entrepreneurs in Muslim majority countries
and those in other countries.
The MCB Secretary-General, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Bari speaking about the visit
said never before has the need for a better relationship between the Muslims
and non-Muslim world been more important adding that he has been heartened
by the diversity and individual accomplishments of the young professionals
that will represent Britain at the summit.
Sir Iqbal Sacranie, who will lead the UK Muslim delegation and is also
member of the WIEF’s International Advisory Panel said: “The 4th WIEF will
serve as a hub for potential business collaboration between different
countries and will be a platform for the exchange of cutting edge ideas
between leaders in business and government both within and outside the
region.”
Supporting the delegation, Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of UK Trade and
Investment noted : “The UK’s delegation to World Islamic Economic Forum
reflects UK’s position as the world’s leading International Financial
Centre.
There are many opportunities for the UK and particularly London as a leading
centre for Islamic Financial Services. UK businesses are developing closer
ties and relationships with other regions in this field which will surely
bring benefits to both the UK and other countries.”
The delegation will be looking to build on their previous successes and
share best practice with leaders across the Muslim world at the main event
and at the Businesswomen and Young Leaders Forum which will be taking place
at the same time. A number of heads of states and key business figures are
expected to attend the Summit.● |
