'Pakistan Times' Sports Desk

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday constituted a three-member Appellate Tribunal, headed by former Judge of the Lahore High Court, Aftab Farrukh to start proceedings with immediate effect to consider express bowler Shoaib Akhter’s appeal against the penalty imposed on him on disciplinary grounds.

“The Tribunal will also include Salman Taseer, an Entrepreneur and former Federal Minister Haseeb Ahsan a former test Cricketer”,said a spokesman of PCB here.

Aftab Farrukh is an eminent and distinguished lawyer of Pakistan who has also been an office bearer of Pakistan Bar Council. He served as a Judge of the Lahore High Court from 1978 to 1981 when he did not make oath under PCO by General Zia-ul-Haq and therefore, ceased to be a Judge.

He gained international repute in a number of high profile legal cases and represented Pakistan in the 46th UN General Assembly session.

He has also been a prominent sportsman of international stature in the field of cycling.

Shoaib has been banned for five years by the disciplinary committee for breaching code of conduct.●
