AMID awful scenario being faced by the Palestinians – the OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has called for Israel’s trial by an international war crimes court for heinous attacks against the innocent people.

The situation in Palestine remains deplorable due to the unending attacks by Israeli forces and agents on the plea that they were targeting the militants only.

Speaking to the OIC summit in Dakar, Senegal the OIC chief referred to Israeli crimes against humanity by disproportionate and excessive use of force which led to the killing of civilians including women and children.

President Mahmood Abbas was justified in saying that Israel was involved in ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem by banning the building of Palestinian homes and cutting the city off from the rest of the occupied West Bank.

The tiny Jewish state has become so powerful with the backing of the United States and Western countries that it least cares for Palestinians being killed by aerial strikes and bombardment by ground forces. Hamas-led Gaza strip is now the prime target of the Israeli atrocities.

There is no movement to the process for the creation of an independent Palestinian State as Israeli leadership is not taking seriously the attempts by the Bush Administration to bring a lasting peace in the Middle East.

Realism manifests that – mayhem by Israel continues to swell with every sun-up. Hence, if no steps are taken on the ground – Tel Aviv will eventually find itself in a big trouble.

Due to mounting wave of merciless acts – there is urgent need that the OIC should take unanimous stand over Israel’s atrocities against humanity.

And, it should be ensured that the entire leadership in Tel Aviv is made to stand before the international war crimes court – and that too, without any delay.

Though – it would be difficult to do so – as the strong Jewish lobby in the West would oppose it tooth and nail – yet at least an attempt can be made to mobilize international opinion against Israeli high-handedness.

We feel optimistic that if a sincere move is initiated by the Muslim World – with one voice – the tyrannical acts of Israel shall come to halt – forever.●
