NEW DELHI (India): India
will facilitate import of more cement from Pakistan to stabilise prices in
the market.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, Secretary in the Department of
Industrial Policy and Promotion Ajay Shankar said during the last year, the
prices of cement in India have been reasonably stable.
Ajay Shankar said the government expects a balance in demand-supply of
cement in the current fiscal. The government is keeping a constant watch on
the price situation of both steel and cement.
More cement will be imported from the neighbouring country, he said
The import of cement from Pakistan has increased manifold during the last
four months. India has registered a number of Pakistani cement
manufacturers, a requirement to facilitate import of cement.
Pakistan has already increased the frequency of trains from one to three in
a week to carry cement from Pakistan to Wagah border.
Due to boom in construction industry, India needs cement in bulk to meet its
growing needs.●
