Noted Physician Dr. Waheed Qureshi passes away
'Pakistan Times' Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Dr. Abdul Waheed Qureshi – a noted philanthropist and physician of Pakistan – died by heart arrest in Islamabad on Monday.

He was around 77.

Dr. Waheed Qureshi – who served the people of Pothohar region for well over five decades – was suffering from lungs disorder which had developed recently.
He could not recover from the disease despite best possible treatment at home and abroad.

With every eye filled with tears – he was laid to rest in the main graveyard of Islamabad – after his funeral which was largely attended by people from all segments of the society as well as his professional colleagues and several admirers.

Dr. Qureshi served his patients who among others included quite a number of foreign diplomats based in Islamabad – as a determined soul till the time he breathed his last.

He was Medical Advisor/Consultant to several top organizations – which also included Pakistan Television.

Originally hailing from Jammu City in the Himalayan State of Jammu & Kashmir – late Waheed Qureshi migrated to well-known industrial city of Sialkot along with his elders in 1947 after the Dogra regime started massacre of Muslims in the wake of Indian invasion of the State.

Having passed F.Sc, late Waheed Qureshi did his MBBS from King Edward College Lahore with distinction – where after, he sought higher education in the UK and subsequently in USA.

In mid-60s, Dr. Waheed Qureshi opted to make the then remote area Rawalpindi – as his abode and set-up twin clinics in Pindi and the picturesque Murree, a famous hill resort in Pakistan – to serve the ailing humanity with free treatment to the poor.

Rendering memorable services to the people for a long time – Dr. Waheed Qureshi died Monday – with a sudden strike to his heart.

He leaves behind a widow Dr. Khalida Waheed and a daughter – both of whom are affiliated with medical profession.

AJK Speaker Condoles


Apex Kashmiri leader Shah Ghulam Qadir, who is Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu & Kashmir has expressed his deep shock and anguish over the sad demise of Dr. Abdul Waheed Qureshi.

Through a condolence message, wired to 'Pakistan Times' [Daily Web Newspaper] Wednesday – he said that late Dr. Qureshi was a soul – who besides his fellows in the medical arena – was widely respected by diverse segments of the society.

In his death the Jammu & Kashmir State has lost a cerebral – who altruistically served the ailing humanity – for a prolonged time, Shah Ghulam Qadir said by adding; the services for the Kashmir Cause – rendered by Dr. Waheed Qureshi shall stay alive.

The Speaker prayed; may Allah Almighty bless the departed souls in eternal peace and grant the bereaved family courage and fortitude to bear this big tragedy.●
