Participation in PM’s election to strengthen democracy: Ch. Pervaiz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) leader Ch. Pervaiz Ellahi Monday said that his party’s decision to participate in the election for the office of the prime minister aims at strengthening democratic process in the country.

“We are not concerned about our strength in the National Assembly. Our participation in the election is just to show the real spirit of democracy,” he told media at the Parliament House.

Replying to a question, he said his party would be a part of the Balochistan government but it would sit on the opposition benches in the Centre and it was not new in the politics as MMA’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman was the opposition leader in the Centre but his coalition was ruling in the NWFP.

To a query, he said there would be a strong opposition in the Centre that would play its constructive role to strengthen the true democratic norms and traditions.

He said, “We do not believe in confrontation but after the derogatory remarks given by PPP’s central leader Syed Khurshid Shah, his party decided not to attend the dinner hosted by National Assembly Speaker Dr. Fehmida Mirza.”●
