Snowfall disrupts life in Indian

ISLAMABAD: The occupied
Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall throwing the normal life in several
areas out of gear while bringing respite to the people from cold wave
conditions.
Trees rooftops, roads and parks had turned white, as the people woke up in
the city and its adjoining areas in disputed territory.
The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Panjtherni and
Pisso top recorded about six inches to 12 inches of snowfall while the
Khilanmarg, Affarwat and Kongdori slopes recorded one foot of fresh
snowfall, KMS reported.
In Baramulla town and its adjacent areas about six inches, Damhal Hanjipora,
in Kulgam received over three feet snow, Pahalgam 12 inches, Marwah and
Wadwan in Kishtwar recorded about 10 feet of snowfall while the upper
reaches of Kupwara and Baramulla districts also experienced heavy snowfall.
People in Leh, Kargil, and Drass, the second coldest inhabited place in the
world after Siberia, were beleaguered by the severe cold as dry and clear
weather continued during the night.
The night temperature in Drass was recorded at minus 19.5 degree Celsius
while the maximum was minus 5.5 degrees.
Meanwhile, due to the heavy snow at tunnel, Banihal and around Patni Top
300-Km long Jammu-Srinagar highway was blocked for vehicular movement.● |
