Four killed in grenade attack in Assam
'Pakistan Times' Wire Service

NEW DELHI: At least four persons were killed and 53 others injured including four policemen in a grenade attack in Jonai sub-division of Upper Assam’s Dhemaji district on Saturday night.

According to media reports, the banned ULFA lobbed a powerful grenade during a cultural function of tribesmen in the area.

Quoting Dhemaji disrict Deputy Commissioner, the report said thousands of people belonging to a tribe had gathered at an open field at Murkongselek area to celebrate a function where it was attacked by a grenade.

On this day in 1980, the army wing of the outfit ULFA under its “Commander in chief” Paresh Barua was formed.

An operation has been launched to capture the attackers.●
