Pakistan National volleyball championship begins Today

LAHORE: Lahore will be the focus of a prime volleyball activity when the 43rd National mens volleyball championship will be played here from tomorrow, Wednesday at Wapda Sports Complex, an event being organised after one decade.

“This event will offer high quality volleyball as country’s top 14 teams from all the affiliated units of Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) will take part “,said Major (retd) Mohammad Afzal, Secretary (PVF) said on Tuesday.

He said the last event held in Lahore was way back in 1997 and since then this annual activity took place in other cities and it is back to Lahore after a long gap.

“ We hope that this event will generate the interest of youth to take up volleyball as a sport “,he said.

PVF is organising the championship in collaboration with Wapda Sports Control Board.

He praised the interest and contribution of Chairman, PVF,Chaudhary Muhammad Yaqoob for the promotion of volleyball in the country and said due to his untiring efforts a comprehensive development plan has been launched for the promotion of the game.

“ We are facing a lot of problems in terms of getting sponsorship but even then we are having maximum volleyball activities at junior, senior and women level “,he asserted.

He said a refresher course for the volleyball coaches will be conducted during the championship.Secretary,Coaches Board,PVF, Qazi Mushtaq along with MB Javed will be conducting it.
