Kashmir Issue

ISLAMABAD: Former AJK Prime
Minister, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Friday stressed third party mediation for
settlement of Kashmir issue as no bilateral issue was resolved without
mediation in the history of Pak-India relations.
Talking to Deputy Envoy of Sweden, Jorgen Lind Strom at his residence here,
he claimed that there is deadlock in the Pak-India dialogue to resolve all
outstanding issues including Kashmir.
He said that issue like Run of Kach, Sindh Basin Treaty were resolved by
International Court of Justice while issue of 1965 War was also got settled
in Taskant.
Sultan Mehmood, also President of AJK Peoples Muslim League, opined that
there is need of this party mediation for resolution of longstanding Kashmir
issue for which the European Union is an important forum.
Initially, intra-Kashmiri dialogue should be organized, he said and added,
“If Pakistan and India can improve relations through Confidence Building
Measures (CBMs), the Kashmiri living on the both sides of Line of Control (LoC)
should be allowed to hold talks.”
He said the Kashmiris being suppressed by 800,000 Indian troops should feel
improvement.
Sultan Mehmood asked the European Union (EU) to exert pressure on India to
repeal draconian laws and release the Hurriyat Conference leaders.
“They should also be given travel documents so that they could present
Kashmir issue at different world fora,” he added.● |
