Of those martyred nine youth were shot dead in an indiscriminate firing incident by the troops at Tangmarg in Baramulla when they went berserk after two Army Majors and a trooper were killed and three others injured in a clash in the area.

The troops also destroyed ten residential houses by heavy shelling. Another youth was martyred in a fake encounter in Pulwama.

According to another report, Indian army has sought time from a local court for filing its response to the charge-sheet filed against it by the police for its complicity in the fake encounter killing of a civilian Maulvi Showkat Ahmed at Bazipora Ajas in Bandipora last year.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar adjourned the case till October 18. Indian Army’s 15 Corps had approached the CJM with the plea that it be allowed some time to respond to the charge sheet filed by the police against it.

The occupied Kashmir Police has charge sheeted against Indian troops for their involvement in the killing of Maulvi Showkat Ahmed Kataria of Banihal in Bandipora in a fake encounter.

It is pertinent to recall that Maulvi Showkat Ahmed, an Imam at Alalgari Bazaar mosque in Srinagar, was arrested by the troops of 13-Rashtriya Rifles on the night of October 4, 2006. He was then taken to Sumbal and later killed in a fake encounter at Bazipora Ajas in Bandipora after being dubbed by the troops as a foreign militant.

However, after the fake encounter killings scandal involving the personnel of Special Operations Group of Ganderbal was earthed, Showkat’s body was exhumed and forensic tests conducted on it established that he was killed in a fake encounter.●
