4th Pakistan Dates Show in Dhaka from Today

DHAKA (Bangladesh): The 2-day 4th Pakistan Dates show kicks off at a local hotel in Dhaka Sunday, (Sept 2), an announcement of Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka said Pakistan High Commission, Dhaka in collaboration with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Government of Pakistan is organizing the show that ends on September 3.

A number of Date growers and exporters from Pakistan will display their products. The target audience of the show will be the fruit importers, dealers, wholesalers, distributors, super stores, retailers and consumers of the product.

Feroz Ahmed, Secretary of Bangladesh Ministry of Commerce, will be the Chief Guest to inaugurate the Pakistan Date Show-2007.

Pakistan produces more than 6,00,000 metric tonnes of dates and is among the top 4-5 producers of dates in the world. Pakistan can supply both dry and fresh dates. Pakistan’s total export of dates has crossed US$ 36 million in 2006-07.

Pakistan has increased its share of date imports in Bangladesh from 2.37% in 2003-04 to 5.39% in 2004-05. Bangladesh is one of the largest importers and consumers of Dates in the world.

Date varieties like Aseel, Muzawati, Karbala, Fasli and Kepro of Sindh, Begum Jangi etc. are being exported from Pakistan, in keeping with the growing demand for fresh dates.●
