TEHRAN: Iran said on Sunday there would be no change in its policy in the nuclear standoff with the West after the sudden resignation of chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani.

"The resignation of Mr Larijani was agreed by the president (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) but the policies and strategies of the Islamic republic on the nuclear issue are unchangeable goals," foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said at his weekly news conference.

"Our officials will continue strongly along the same road and no change will come about," he added.

“Based on the supreme leader's and president's suggestion, Mr. Larijani, alongside new top negotiator Mr. Saeed Jalili, will attend the negotiation with Solana on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad AliHosseini told reporters during his weekly news conference.
