PML, Allies adopt Resolution for Re-election of Musharraf

LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League and its allies Friday unanimously adopted a resolution for the re-election of President Pervez Musharraf for another five-year term.

The resolution was moved by provincial minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Muhammad Basharat Raja at a parliamentary party meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi in the chair.

Following is the text of the resolution;

“This meeting of parliamentary party of PML and its allied parties assure its full support to President Gen Pervez Musharraf for his re-election as President of Pakistan.

This meeting fully appreciates his role for stability of democracy, continuity of democratic institutions and completion of constitutional term of present assemblies and believes that completion of constitutional term of the existing assemblies despite unfavourable circumstances and opposition by undemocratic force was made possible by the special interest and commitment of Gen Pervez Musharraf with democracy and democratic institutions.

This meeting also supports the determination of President Gen Pervez Musharraf that his re-election in uniform is essential for continuity and stability of democratic system in the country.

The members of the parliamentary party will not only vote for President Gen Pervez Musharraf in election but will also play their due role and vigorously run the election campaign for the President under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhary Pervez Elahi” the resolution added.

Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhary Pervez Elahi Friday said that “We have reposed full confidence in the sagacious leadership of President Pervez Musharraf for steering the country from critical situation and putting it on road to progress and prosperity”.

Addressing the parliamentary meeting of PML and its allies here, he said that it is of paramount importance that President Pervez Musharraf should stay in power to deal with internal and external threats efficiently and prevailing political, economic and security demands.

He said that the present assemblies should re-elect President Pervez Musharraf for further next five years term as their is no constitutional and legal hurdle in this regard and therefore, it is unanimous decision of PML and its allied parties that President will be re-elected in uniform from existing assemblies.

Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi said that MPL will win the coming general elections on the basis of its public service and outclass performance and will foil the conspiracies of opposition through unity in its ranks. He said President strengthened the democratic institutions, boosted the trade besides stabilizing the national economy on sound footings.

He said it is in the larger national interest that prudent economic policies being pursued by the President must continue for next five- year term. He said that “We will contest the next general elections as a united political force and will not form electoral alliance with any other political party. He said that real contest in the election will be between PML and PPP and we will win with thumping majority.

Chief Minister stressed upon the assembly members to concentrate on development activities in their respective areas and maintain a close contact with the masses for solving their problems on top priority. He said that assembly members must forge unity in their ranks.

Provincial Ministers Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi,Chaudhary Zaheer Ud Din Khan and Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Shaukat Mazari were also present on the occasion.●
