Removal of Trade Barriers between Pakistan-India Welcomed

ISLAMABAD: Former President FPCCI welcomed the agreement reached at India-Pakistan Joint Study Group meeting held recently in New Delhi to combat artificial trade barriers between the two countries.

In a statement issued here Thursday Tariq Sayyed specifically welcomed the agreement reached to exchange a list of 20 products of export interest to both sides by December 31, 2007 and prepare a compendium of procedures for their trade facilitation.

He also appreciated the efforts and successful negotiations undertaken by the leader of Pakistan delegation Secretary Commerce Syed Asif Shah for establishment of a sub-group to address the issue of market access linked to agriculture sector.

Tariq welcomed the agreement reached at such group on customs cooperation and trade facilitation necessary to work towards a bilateral agreement on customs corporation on specific bilateral issues.

Tariq Sayyed said the meeting of the joint study group are proceeding in the right direction and hoped that they will have positive impact on promotion of bilateral trade.●
