Action on Miscreant Hideouts in

ISLAMABAD: Security forces
Tuesday carried out an operation against miscreants and targeted their
hideouts in Miranshah, North Waziristan Agency in NW Pakistan.
Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Waheed
Arshad said the said that the operation was launched on 05:00 this morning,
in which cobra gun ship helicopters and artillery were used.
There was information that miscreants, taking refuge in two to three houses
in Miranshah were operating from there and attacking on check posts and
convoys of the security forces, Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad added.
Meanwhile, another report says that the assault by artillery and helicopter
gunships knocked out two compounds in Daygan village in the tribal belt that
were being used as staging posts for attacks on security forces.
Ten militants were killed and at least seven were wounded in the operation,
about 10 miles west of Miran Shah, the main town in the North Waziristan
region.
No ground troops were used in the operation, and the report on militant
casualties was based on information from 'local sources,' said the report.
Bid in Swat Foiled
Meanwhile, a report from Swat says that a bomb disposal squad thwarted an
attempt of destroying FC fort here on Tuesday.
According to sources, unknown persons had planted 15-kilogram bomb in a
bucket of FC Fort in Bagh Dhari area.
Bomb disposal squad immediately reached at the scene soon after receiving
the report and defused the bomb.
DPO Swat Muhammad Iqbal Khan announced cash reward and appreciation
certificates for bomb disposal squad experts for their swift action.●
