Plan for Up-gradation of Islamabad
Educational Institutions Approved

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister
Shaukat Aziz Thursday approved a plan for the up gradation of all public
sector schools and colleges of Islamabad Capital Territory to make them a
model for the entire country.
He was chairing a meeting here to review the implementation of education and
administrative reforms in the educational institutions managed by the
Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
The Prime Minister said the government is investing in education to better
equip our youth to face the challenges of today and tomorrow.
He said improvements have been made in the curricula, educational system and
physical facilities to produce scholars who are globally competitive and
creative.
“Our youth are second to none and given the right opportunities so that they
can excel in every field. We need to unleash the creativity of our students
to leverage their full potential,” he said.
Shaukat Aziz said we have come a long way but a lot more need to be done.
The government is focusing both on improving the literacy rate especially
female literacy and on bringing improvement in the quality and relevance of
education, he said.
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Education (MoE) to keep a balance
between formal education and extra-curricular activities, such as field
trips to broaden the minds of students and build their balanced
personalities.
He also asked the MoE to initiate the process for ranking of colleges in the
public sector, adding the ranking criteria should be transparent and well
publicized.
Under the up gradation plan approved by the Prime Minister all schools and
colleges in Islamabad will have better teaching facilities, better labs and
facilities for technical education and career counselling among many other
features.
The Prime Minister also reviewed the progress in setting up College of Home
Economics and Management Sciences in Islamabad and asked the concerned
officials to expedite the process.
Earlier, Director General of Directorate of Education made a presentation
highlighting the conceptual framework and broad parameters of the up
gradation plan.
The Prime Minister appreciated the plan presented by the MoE and asked the
concerned authorities to ensure its implementation.
The meeting was attended among others by Minister for Education Lt-Gen (Retd)
Javed Ashraf, Minister of State for Education Ms Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli and
senior officials.●
