River Chanab Poised to High
Floods, Punjab Admin on High Alert

LAHORE: River Chanab is
feared to burst into high floods during the next 24 hours, which prompted
the administrations in all the six districts in the province of Punjab to be
put on high alert.
On the other hand, torrential rains lashed several cities of the province
including the capital city here. The low-lying areas of Gojranawala, Kamonki
Wazirabad, Gakhar Mandi, Sheikhupura, Shahkot Narowal, Sialkot, Kasur,
Chunian, Patoki and Kot Radha Krishn were submerged under the heavy
downpours.
Punjab Director General Relief has directed the DCOs of the districts
Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gojranawala, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad that
they should remain high alert in view of the threats of high floods in River
Chanab and take necessary measures for meeting any eventualities and for
providing timely help and protection to the people.
Metrological Department said that the River Chanab at Khanki and Marala was
presently in medium flood and the flood waves of 1,50,000 to 2,30,000 cusecs
would pass through in the next 24 hours.
This, experts say would in fact be high-level flood besides adjoining Chanab
rain drains Nala Aik, Palkho, Bhaid and Bhambar would also witness high
floods.●
