River Chanab Poised to High Floods, Punjab Admin on High Alert
'Pakistan Times' Punjab Bureau

LAHORE: River Chanab is feared to burst into high floods during the next 24 hours, which prompted the administrations in all the six districts in the province of Punjab to be put on high alert.

On the other hand, torrential rains lashed several cities of the province including the capital city here. The low-lying areas of Gojranawala, Kamonki Wazirabad, Gakhar Mandi, Sheikhupura, Shahkot Narowal, Sialkot, Kasur, Chunian, Patoki and Kot Radha Krishn were submerged under the heavy downpours.

Punjab Director General Relief has directed the DCOs of the districts Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gojranawala, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad that they should remain high alert in view of the threats of high floods in River Chanab and take necessary measures for meeting any eventualities and for providing timely help and protection to the people.

Metrological Department said that the River Chanab at Khanki and Marala was presently in medium flood and the flood waves of 1,50,000 to 2,30,000 cusecs would pass through in the next 24 hours.

This, experts say would in fact be high-level flood besides adjoining Chanab rain drains Nala Aik, Palkho, Bhaid and Bhambar would also witness high floods.●
