New Treatment for Eye Loss Found in UK

LONDON: The British doctors have heralded a new treatment for the main causes of the sight loss in the United Kingdom.

Researchers at University College London’s Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital say the pioneering treatment would be available within five years.

According to a media report, scientists have found a special type of cell known as a Muller glias cell, which plays an important part in regenerating retinal damage.

They are now hoping to develop techniques where cells are grown in a laboratory and implanted back into the eye.

Scientists are also looking for ways to stimulate the eye to repair itself using its own cells. Diseases that damage the retina account for three-quarters of registered blindness in the UK.

The report has quoted Dr.Astrid Limb who led the study as saying:” A key challenge is stop the immune system rejecting treatment.”●
