First-ever Visit of Israeli Naval Chief to India

NEW DELHI: Israeli Naval Chief Vice Admiral David Ben Bashat arrived here on Monday to discuss security situation in the region and also to enhance defence cooperation with India.

Media reports said Bashat, who is the first Israeli Naval Chief visiting India will hold meetings with top Indian military leadership to discuss the security related issues.

The Israeli commanders from air force and army had been visiting India in the past. But, it was for first time that a Naval Commander is visiting India, media reports said.

Both Indian and Israeli Naval commanders will exchange views and information on security scenario in the region and beyond.

Bashat will also hold one-on-one talks with Indian Naval Chief. He will also meet Army Chief Gen J J Singh, Air Chief Fali Homi Major and Defence Secretary Vijay Singh.

India has become the biggest importer of Israeli armaments to the tune of over five billion dollars, the reports added.●
