ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said the present
assemblies will complete their tenure and general elections will be held on
time.
Before that present assemblies would re-elect President Pervez Musharraf for
another term between September 15 to October 15 as it is constitutional
obligation of the sitting assemblies to elect the president, he told a
private television cannel.
'President Pervez Musharraf must be given another term as the volatile
international situation demands a strong man like him to exterminate the
menace of terrorism from the world', he said.
Urging political parties to extend unflinching support to the president as
it is in the national interest, the CM said and added that PPP would be more
than welcomed to support the President’s re-election bid.
The elections would be contested under the umbrella of Pakistan Muslim
League and the deal with PPP will not make any difference as traditionally
the voters of PPP and PML are different, he said.
PPP was a traditional rival of PML. In any circumstances PML voter does not
vote PPP.
“There will be no seat adjustment with PPP. We will not form any election
alliance with them. However power sharing is possible with any party
including PPP after the elections,”he added.
PML is poised to win the elections on the basis of its excellent
performance.
Responding to a question he said; 'PML (N) Leader Nawaz Sharif has gone
abroad after beseeching a 10 years deal. Three years are still remaining in
his return.'
'Nawaz Sharif opted for a comfortable life in Europe. He did nothing for his
voters. The ruling PML will inflict a comprehensive defeat on its opponents
as people appreciate its good governance and extra ordinary development
projects completed during its tenure', the CM remarked.●
