3 Muslim Candidates Qualified to Contest India's VP Elections

NEW DELHI: After the end of withdrawal of candidature on Thursday, the three Muslim candidates supported by their respective alliances and parties qualified to contest Vice presidential elections on August 10.

Ruling Alliance supported candidates Muhammed Hamid Ansari, Opposition Alliance supported Najma Heptulla and Rasheed Masood of the Third Front are in the field to clinch the second highest position in India.

Media reports said chances of Ansari is very bright to win the contest as he is enjoying support of majority of members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha which is the Electoral College for the poll.

UPA, the ruling alliance along with their supporters has support of 425 of the total 788 members.●
