Relief, Rescue Ops Continue in Flood-hit
areas of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Hectic efforts
of Army Engineer are underway to launch a bridge at Jumani to restore road
Karachi - Quetta for all types of traffic which is presently operating
through a diversion.
Army Engineers are launching a Compact Bridge at Jumani, as a semi permanent
solution, as the main bridge has been washed away due to flash floods.
Excavation of toe wall and construction of abutment is in progress at the
moment. Four dozers, two cranes, three loaders, eight dumpers, two
excavators are busy round the clock to launch the bridge.
Troops of Army Engineers and Frontier Works Organization are also employed
at Brija, Shahdadkot, Panjgur and Dera Murad Jamali for repair of road
network in Sindh and Balochistan.
A construction team of Frontier Works Organization has also been moved from
Quetta for repair of a breach 10 KM short of Kharan. The road has been
opened for light traffic.
Army medical teams are busy round the clock to treat people in flood hit
areas of Balochistan and Sindh. A total of 31,057 patients have been treated
in Sindh and 23,683 in Balochistan through medical camps and by mobile
medical teams.
117 sorties of PAF C-130 and 861 sorties of helicopters (Army, Navy and Air
Force) have been flown for flood relief operations.
Pakistan Army Troops are carrying our rescue and relief operations in flood
hit areas of Sindh. In Kamber, during last twenty four hours eight trucks
containing relief items have been distributed among affectees.
More than 150 troops including paramedics and four ambulances are deployed
in district Dadu to carry out rescue and relief operations. All efforts are
being made to provide immediate relief to the affectees in Johi in district
Dadu.
More than hundred troops of the Army alongwith three motor boats are
carrying our rescue operations in Mehar. In Dalbandin 3 tons of rations have
been distributed amongst the flood affected population.
Rescue and relief and efforts of Army also continue in Balochistan.
More than hundred troops are committed in rescue and relief operations in
Nal. Relief efforts also continue in Turbat, Sibbi, Jacobabad, Gawadar,
Khuzdar. Relief goods are being provided and medical camps being established
for the affectees of flood hit areas.
China Donates US $ 200,000
China has provided financial assistance of US $ 200,000 as a traditional
gesture of long standing friendship between the two countries for the
cyclone Yemyim 03 victims affected in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.
A handing over Certificate of the Cheque was signed by Wang Chao, Assistant
Minister for Commerce, People’s Republic of China and M Akram Malik,
secretary Economic Affairs Division in presence of Dr. Salman Shah, Prime
Minister’s Adviser on Finance here on Wednesday.●
