Letter of Exchange for Pak-China Digital Seismic Network Signed

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China signed Letter of Exchange to establish Pak-China Centre and Digital Seismic Network in Pakistan.

Wang Chao, Assistant Minister for Commerce, People’s Republic of China and Akram Malik signed the Letter of Exchange on behalf of their respective governments here on Wednesday. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Salman Shah, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance.

Under the agreement, the Chinese Government will establish Digital Seismic Network in Pakistan, which will include design of the project, survey and selection of the stations, provision of earthquake monitoring equipment and its transportation to Islamabad, dispatch of technical personnel to Pakistan for equipment installation and commissioning of technical service and training of Pakistani technical personnel.

The project assistance will be in form of a grant.

Concrete matters regarding implementation of this project will be stipulated in a separate contract to be signed between the agencies to be designated by the two governments.

It may be recalled that China had agreed to provide a grant of approximately US $ 10 million in April 2007 for the Pak-China Centre and Digital Seismic Network in Pakistan.

Agreement with Exporters


Meanwhile, another story says that Chinese Trade Mission and Pakistani Exporters would sign a deed ceremony here today, Thursday for enhancing trade between the two countries.

The high-level Chinese Trade mission has been on three day (July 18-20) visit to Pakistan to explore the ways for further increasing trade between the Pakistani exporters and Chinese importers and Entrepreneurs and also improve the trade balance.

During its stay in the country, the Chinese delegation is also scheduled to hold talks with senior government officials on import of different commodities to China including leather, ceramic, ore, rapeseeds, cotton and cotton yarn, marble, as well as food items.●
