Inquiry Report on May-12 Karachi Incident
to be Made Public: Sherpao

KARACHI: Interior Minister
Aftab Ahmed Sherpao said here Tuesday that the court has taken suo moto
notice of May 12 incidents and investigations into the same are also in
hand.
Talking to media at a local hotel, Sherpao said that whenever the inquiry
report is received it will be made public.
He pointed out that the President and Prime Minister have already visited
Karachi and reviewed law and order situation in the aftermath of May 12.
The Minister Interior said that he made a presentation before the National
Security Council (NSC) with regard to law and order in the country.
He said that Government is taking steps against terrorist elements in
Waziristan. He said the country cannot afford terrorism and it should not be
there in the region.
To a question, Aftab Sherpao said that Prime Minister has gone to Kabul
where talks were scheduled with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on various
issues including terrorism and related matters.
He said the Grand Jirga of two countries will meet in August in which
various issues concerning Pakistan and Afghanistan will figure.
The Interior Minister said that both President and Prime Minister have been
holding meetings regarding security plan in the country.
He said the Government is keeping an eye on every aspect of law and order to
ensure that incidents like May 12 do not recur. He said that no one wants
terrorism under the garb of law and order.
To a question, Sherpao said that purpose of his visit to Karachi was to
visit the families of those killed in May 12 incidents, condole with them
and offer fateha for the departed souls.
To another question, he said that a delegation of Indian families have
visited Central Prison Karachi in search of missing POWs.
He said they have checked the entire record and found none of their
relatives as POW in the jail. He said they came here for personal
satisfaction.
Later, the Minister visited the houses of victims of May 12 in Khamosh
Colony and Manghopir and offered condolences to the bereaved families.●
