German Defence Minister meets President Musharraf

RAWALPINDI: German Defence Minister Dr. Franz Josef Jung, who is currently on an official visit to Pakistan, called on President General Pervez Musharraf here on Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) the President exchanged views on various avenues of defence cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the President recalled the existing friendly relations between Pakistan and Germany and expressed the hope that the visit of Dr. Franz Josef Jung would serve to further enhance bilateral ties.

The visiting dignitary thanked the government of Pakistan for the hospitality being extended to him.

He expressed his resolve for further strengthening the existing defence cooperation between Germany and Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Minister of State for Defence Ali Asjad Malhi, German Ambassador Gunter Mulack and other senior government officials were also present on the occasion.

Later, German Defence Minister Dr. Franz Josef Jung also met Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hyat at the General Headquarters and discussed with him matters of mutual interest.●
