Ban on Geo Transmissions Restores, Continues in Pakistan

KARACHI: The government has restored the transmissions of Geo News in various parts of country after ban on the most popular TV channel of the country for over 38 hours.

However, transmissions of Geo News still remain suspended at some parts of the country.

The calls of the viewers also flooded the office of Geo Television network on Tuesday but they expressed happiness over the resumption transmissions of Geo News unlike the Sunday calls in which they expressed anger and condemned the suspension of transmissions of their favourite TV channel.

The viewers said that Geo News was the only the News channel of the country which keeps the people informed about national and international situation at every moment.

An earlier report had said that Government ban over Geo News transmissions continues despite passage of over 36 hours and as a result the most popular channel of Pakistan has been off-screen in various parts of the country.

The complaints have been received from the viewers all across Pakistan that the transmissions of Geo News were suspended from Sunday night when Dr. Shahid Masood’s popular program “ Meray Mutabiq was airing.

On Monday, the authorities demanded the Geo administration not to air its popular programme Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Saath. After refusal from Geo administration, the transmission could not be aired for the second consecutive day.

The transmission of the channel have been blocked in posh areas of the capital city of Islamabad which include; F-7, G-5, G-6, F-6, I-8, F-8, G-8, Blue Area, G-11, F-11, G-10, G-9/4, I-10/2 and I-10/4 areas of Islamabad. However, in I-10/3 where most of Pakistan's newspaper offices are located are watching the transmission with periodic break.

Geo News has also been off-screen in Rawalpindi’s Chandni Chowk, Satellite Town, Kamala Abad, Rawalpindi Cantt, Rawal Town, Chaklala Scheme-III, Adyala, Tipu Road, Faisal Colony, Shah Khalid Colony and Gulzar-e-Quaid localities.

The transmissions have been blocked in Lahore and interior Sindh cities of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Badin and Larkana.

The transmissions have also been blocked in Gulbahar, Kohat Road, University Town, Board Bazaar, Tahkal and some parts of the internal areas of the city.

Moreover in Karachi transmissions of Geo News have been suspended in Shah Faisal Colony, Airport, Jauhar More, Defence, PECHS, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Shadman Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi, Liaquatabad, Patel Para, Sharfabad, Gulbarg, North Karachi, Al-Azam Square, Garden, Nagan Chowrangi, Malir, New Karachi, Baldia Town and Saddar area.

The people have expressed anger over suspension of the Geo News transmissions and demanded complete freedom to the media in the country.●
