Fresh Fighting by Kashmiri Freedom Fighters Breaks-out in IHK
'Pakistan Times' Kashmir Bureau Chief

MIRPUR (AJK): In occupied Kashmir even as one of the Dy. SP Yougal Manhas of the state police is struggling for life at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after being shot at and seriously injured by a Kashmiri mujahid in Mendhar on May 23.

The freedom fighters Wednesday evening gunned down another Dy. SP Shailey Singh at Udrana, just one km from Bhadarwah town in Doda district, says a report reaching here Thursday from across the line of control.

Posted as Dy. SP Operations in occupied Jammu, Shailey Singh, whose father Inspector Udhey Vir Singh was also killed in a militant action during his posting as SHO Gandhi Nagar in 1993, was hit by a burst fired by the militants from inside the house of a State Forest Corporation (SFC) employee at Udrana on the outskirts of Bhadarwah at 7.30 pm Wednesday, the report said.

Known as ‘Robinhood’ in Police Department for his participation in several operations against Kashmiri mujahideen in the occupied valley, Doda and other areas of the held State, Shailey Singh, a resident of Police Quarters, Gandhi Nagar, finally fell to the bullets of the freedom fighters after his 13 years abortive war against Kashmiris freedom struggle during which he was mostly posted in Operations wing or freedom-fighting infested areas.

There was no other casualty on either side but a Luskher-e-Tayyaba divisional commander’ Abu Umar was reportedly trapped by police in a house late Wednesday night and efforts were on to eliminate him.

Other kashmiri mujahideen numbering three appeared to have escaped after exchange of firing with Bhadarwah police and the Indian occupying security forces, who rushed to the spot soon after the DySP’s killing, the report said.

Police said the Dy SP along with 17 police personnel, all in civil dresses, rushed to Doda Wednesday morning after the Indian Intelligence Bureau shared a specific input with senior police officers that a group of four to six mujahideen was moving from Srinagar to Bhadarwah in a TATA Sumo, the report said.

It continued quoting the sources in occupied Jammu that the miujahideen were traveling in the Sumo with a plate of ‘BSNL’ kept in front. Singh and his policemen followed the Sumo from some distance. The freedom fighters took shelter in the house of a SFC peon Shabir Ahmed alias Billa alias Sabba and his brother Shakoor Ahmed alias Shanku at Udrana on Bhadarwah’s outskirts. Both Sabba and Shanku have been detained by police.

In am aboritive bid to round up the mujahideen and capture them alive, the DySP entered the house. The freedom fighters who had sensed the presence of police, fired a burst from inside the house without giving police personnel a chance to come into action, killing the Dy SP on spot.

By the time, the cops accompanying him came into action, the militants deserted the house and took positions atop a hill, the report said.

More occupied security forces including police also rushed Udrana and exchange of firing between the two sides took place for about one and a half hour.

Body of the Dy SP was shifted to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Killing of Shailey Singh came exactly after a week as it was on last Wednesday that another young Dy SP Yougal Manhas was fired a burst by a freedom fighters near his office in heart of Mendhar town and injured seriously, the report added.●
