LONDON (UK): U.K. climber,
Rob Baber has set a world record by phoning home from the top of Mount
Everest.
On May 21, Baber made two calls from the mountain's north ridge. China's
mobile base station toward the north ridge of the Everest made the calls
possible.
Baber traveled to the Himalayas from Britain on March 30, and has been
living in high altitude since the middle of April.
Before May 15, a member of the expedition along with Baber were trekking the
slopes of Everest to get used to the route. It also helped to acclimatize
their bodies to the rigorous demands on their bodies.
Baber also set a separate record for sending text messages from the highest
altitude.●
