Pakistan Delegation Visits
Mauritius for Bilateral Trade Avenues

ISLAMABAD: Tariq Pervez,
Director, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) led a nine-member
business delegation to Mauritius from April 29 to May 4.
The visiting exporters represented fields like Pharmaceutical, herbal
medicine, surgical instruments, home fabrics and textiles, readymade
garments, tractor spares, fresh fruits and vegetables, rice and wooden
furniture.
According to a statement issued by TDAP, the delegation was dispatched on
the recommendations of this Mission made to the TDAP to afford an
opportunity to exporters to explore the market while trying to use Mauritius
as a spring-board to penetrate into Eastern and Southern Africa.
The Mission, prior to the arrival of the TDAP delegation, had arranged wide
publicity in local press.
The leader of the delegation was received by Hon. Madan Dulloo, Minister for
Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cooperation and the Deputy Prime
Minister Dr. Rashid Beebeejaun.
High Commissioner of Pakistan to Mauritius, Syed Hasan Javed also hosted a
banquet in honour of the visiting delegates at his residence which was
attended by CEOs and MDs of prominent Mauritian business firms and bit
importers.
Minister of Housing and Lands Hon. Asraf Ally Dulull was the Chief guest on
this occasion.
A reception was hosted by
High Commission where all the leading Mauritian importers in the relevant
fields were present. Vice President of the Republic H.E. Abdool Raouf
Bundhun was the chief guest.
The Mission had arranged interactive sessions/ business match making meeting
with the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), the Chinese
Business Chamber (CBC), Joint Economic Council (JEC) and Hindu Business
Chamber.
The Mission had chalked out an elaborate programme for the visiting
delegates. Their engagements were given due courage by the local press.
The export figure of Pakistan is expected to register a rise to the US $ 60
million by December 2007 as compared to the previous figure of US $ 32
million in December 2005.●
