Four Ulema Quit from CDA Committee on Islamabad Mosques Issue
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: Four protesting ulemas have tendered their resignations from the tripartite committee, which was set up by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Islamabad mosques issue.

Following the Ulemas protests on the martyrdoms of 7 mosques in January and the issuance of demolition notices to 10 mosques besides the declaration of 81 mosques as illegal, a committee was constituted on February 15 headed by the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad and among the members were included the representatives from the CDA, district administration besides the Ulemas of the Wafaqul Madaris.

The four Ulemas of this committee Maulana Zahoor Alvi, Maulana Qazi Abdul Rashid, Maulana Sharif Hazarvi and Qari Nazir Faruqui have announced their resignations from this committee today, saying that they were not called in the recent key-meeting of committee and direct talks were in progress with the Ulemas of the affected mosques.

Sources told that the Ulemas of the affected mosques had objected that the Ulemas included in the committee being the ‘Auqaf khateeb’ were under the influence of the government.●
