President of Pakistan Cup Golf; Raja Khurram Wins Amateur Title

RAWALPINDI: Upcoming amateur Raja Khurram Ghafoor gathered a 54-hole net score of seven-under 206 to capture the title of Askari Bank-sponsored 47th President of Pakistan Cup Golf Tournament at Rawalpindi Golf Club on Sunday.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, was the chief guest on the concluding day of the three-day championship and gave away the prizes. The President of RGC, Lt. Gen. Muhammad Afzal Muzaffar, presented the address of welcome.

Also present among the audience were former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Gen. (R) Muhammad Aziz and Federal Sports Minister Mian Shamim Haider.Young Raja Khurram, son of seasoned amateur golfer Brig. (R) Abdul Ghafoor Raja, finished three strokes ahead of second-placed Lt. Col. (R) Shahid Waraich (209 net), while three strokes further behind on third position was Muhammad Saleem Raza (212).The title trophy in the main amateur event was decided on the basis of net scores by the players with handicap.

Farida Naseer clinched the ladies title, subsidiary title went to Lt. Col. Rizwan Munir, veterans trophy was claimed by Col. Sabir Hussain and seniors’ title was landed by Lt. Col. (R) Muhammad Jamil Khalid. All these titled were decided on net scores.The top four positions in the gross section of the main event went to scratch-handicappers Tariq Mehmood of Islamabad, Waqas Ahmed of Rawalpindi (both 219 each), Wasim Rana of Karachi and Taimur Hassan of Islamabad (224 each).The miscellaneous prizes in the main event went to Azher Shah Bukhari (longest drive with 323 yards), Farida Naseer (nearest to pin with six feet, seven inches), Tariq Mehmood and Muhammad Rahman (maximum birdies, eight each), Waqas Ahmed (maximum pars, 40), Taimur Hassan and Brig. Abdul Ghafoor Raja (maximum eagles, two each), Brig. (R) Maqsoodul Hassan (hole in one).The top three holders in seniors net were Lt. Col. (R) M. Jamil Khalid and Lt. Col. Tariq Kaleem (139 each) and Maj. Gen. (R) Asif Duraiz Akhter (140).The three main gross scorers in the seniors’ event:--Brig. (R) Abdul Ghafoor Raja (156), AVM (R) Abbas Mirza (157) and Abdul Haq (157).

Veterans Net Prizes; Col. ® Sabir Hussain (35), Brig. (R) Muhammad Afsar Khan (37) and Maj. Gen. (R) Muhammad Arshad Malik (38).Veterans gross prizes:--Brig. (R) Maqsoodul Hassan (46), Brig. (R) Khalid Latif (46), M. Naeemuddin and Syed Ali Akbar Naqvi (also 46 each).Subsidiary net prizes:--Lt. Col. Rizwan Munir (133), Capt. Ali Akram (134), Hashim Sabahat (136).Subsidiary gross prizes:--Lt. Col. Adnan (169), Dr. Iftikhar Ali Amjad (170) and Brig. Nasarullah Khan (171).Ladies net prizes:--Farida Naseer (142), Sameea Javed Ali (150) and Salma Sarfraz (153), Ladies gross prizes:Tahira Nazir (164), Tahmina Ali Khan (176) and Jane Scott (179).
