Opportunities for Investment: Mobilink Chief

ISLAMABAD: Conducive
opportunities for investment in Pakistan are reflective of government’s
unflinching commitment towards making the country an attractive destination
for investors.
Commenting on the Hong Kong Investment Conference- 2007, Chief Executive
Officer of Mobilink, Zohair A Khaliq said this is a solid and effective
platform to portray real picture of investment opportunities in Pakistan.
The CEO of a Mobile, the largest and most popular phone company told
'Pakistan Times' that it is very encouraging that Prime Minister Shaukat
Aziz will address the conference, to be attended by investors, business
executives and equity holders.
“This would definitely help strengthen Pakistan’s image as a potential
destination and enhance the volume of investment in the country,” he added.
He said such fora are very useful to showcase economic achievements and
hoped Prime Minister’s address to the conference at the Asian financial
capital would produce positive results.
Appreciating the policies of the government, Zohair Khaliq said more and
more investment is coming to Pakistan in IT and Telecom, Oil and Gas,
construction and engineering sectors.
Zohair Khaliq, who recently visited Hong Kong and other countries to hold
roadshows said major foreign companies there were keen to invest in
Pakistan.
Talking about investment in different sectors, he said the major chunk was
attracted by the telecommunications which ropped in 54 per cent of the total
Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan last year.
The investment not only helped improved GDP, but also provided thousands of
job opportunities to unemployed people, he added.
He particularly mentioned Mobilink, which has so far invested around 2.5
billion Dollar to expand its network in more than 5000 cities, town and
tehsils in Pakistan.●
