Ex-PM Benazir Condemns Terrorist Attack on Samjotha Express
By Shoaib Jabbar 'Pakistan Times' Special Correspondent

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's ex-Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party Ms Benazir Bhutto has expressed profound grief and shock over the explosion in Samjotha Express train heading from India to Pakistan on Monday morning.

Sixty-seven people were killed and countless injured when bomb exploded in the train that was carrying passengers to Pakistan after the re-start of rail links between the countries. Two bogies of the train coming from New Delhi were completely burnt down.

In a statement Monday, the former Prime Minister condemned the terrorists attack aimed at sabotaging people to people contact in the South Asia sub-continent.

"The Pakistan Peoples Party expresses its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims of the blast", she said.

Ms Benazir Bhutto said that militant groups must not be allowed to disrupt the normalisation of relations between the two countries.

The blast is an act of those who want to sabotage peace and tranquility in the region and must not be allowed to succeed in their designs"

The former Prime Minister expressed the hope that a thorough probe would expose the elements behind the blast that took place on the eve of Pakistan's Foreign Minister's visit to India.●
