Lahore-Karachi Double Track by Year's End
'Pakistan Times' National News Desk

WAZIRABAD: Work is underway on the new railway track between Lahore and Karachi, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

This was told by Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Federal Minister for Railways during his visit to the Wazairabad railway station here on Saturday. He announced a Rs 1 million grant for the improvement and beautification of the station.

Addressing the people gathered here he said that a 22km stretch of railway line between Dina and Lahore has been ‘straightened’ because of which travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi will be reduced by two and half hours.

He said Pakistan Railways will start two new trains, Sir Syed Express and Nishtar Express, while the project to run a bullet train between Lahore and Rawalpindi is also on the anvil, he added.

The minister gave directives that Jaffer Express should also stop at Wazirabad station to facilitate local travellers.●
