Outgoing US CENTCOM Commander Gen. Abizaid calls on President Musharraf

RAWALPINDI: The outgoing Commander in Chief of the United States Central Command, General John P Abizaid paid a farewell call on President General Pervez Musharraf here on Thursday.

General John P Abizaid expressed deep appreciation over the excellent cooperation between the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the United States in the fight against international terrorism.

He thanked the President and Pakistan Armed Forces for their help and assistance to him during his tenure.

President General Pervez Musharraf recalled the excellent ties between the Pak-US Forces and expressed the hope that these would further strengthen in the years ahead.

He wished General John P Abizaid all success in future. Senior officials were also present during the call.

Meets VCAS

Later, Commander United States Central Command (CENTCOM), General John P. Abizaid, currently on an official visit to Pakistan visited General Headquarters (GHQ) and called on Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCAS), General Ahsan Saleem Hyat.

Both the dignitaries remained together for some time and discussed matters of professional interest, said an ISPR press release.

Prince El Rashid of Jordan who is currently on an official visit to Pakistan also called on VCAS, General Ahsan Saleem Hyat and discussed matters of mutual interest.●
