Lahore-Chicago declared Twin

LAHORE: Lahore and Chicago
have been declared twin cities with a view to promoting traditional links of
friendship between the two metropolis and to reaffirm aspiration to work for
benefit of citizens.
District Nazim Lahore Mian Amer Mahmood and Mayor of Chicago Richard M.Daley
signed a joint declaration to this effect in a specially held ceremony at
Chicago Cultural Centre, says a message received here Friday.
Members of Chicago City Council, Chairman of Chicago Sister Cities Program
International Robart, W. Junior, District Nazim Mandi Baha Ud Din Riaz
Asghar Chaudhary, prominent expatriate Pakistanis Dr. Tariq Butt, Mazhar
Sahi, Munir Akhter, Dr. Murtaza Aryen, Iftikhar Naseem, Rana Javed and a
large number of others living in Chicago, attended the ceremony.
Under the declaration, mayors of the two cities had vowed that the City of
Chicago and the City of Lahore, on the basis of friendly cooperation,
equality and mutual benefit, will develop a sister cities’ relationship to
promote and broaden cultural, education and economic cooperation and trade
relations between the two cities.
In addition, they will carry out exchanges in such fields as tourism,
education, medicine, science and technology, sports and others to promote
prosperity and further develop friendship between the people of their
countries.
The sister city relationship had been established under the rules and
regulations of Sister Cities International, Town Affiliation Association of
the United States, Inc.
Lahore has become the 26th member of Chicago’s Sister Cities Program’,which
is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Lahore had already signed twin city understanding with as many as 10
different cities of the world.●
