New York ex-Mayor joins race for President

NEW YORK: Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has officially joined the running for the Republican nomination for the 2008 US presidential election.

The Federal Election Commission said Giuliani had filed a "statement of candidacy" - a one-page form outlining a candidate's wish to seek office.

Giuliani was widely praised for his response to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001. He has remained in the public eye and is known as a moderate Republican.●
