Pakistan Times Sports Desk

ISLAMABAD: A leading coach from Argentina will train the Pakistan polo team from April while Argentine side will play two matches in Lahore this month. Argentina's polo coach, Fernandez Morino, will help train the Pakistan national team which is to participate in the World Cup qualifying round in New Zealand in April.

Six teams will compete in the World Cup polo qualifying round in New Zealand. These teams will be Australia, New Zealand, hosts Pakistan, India, the Philippines and Iran.

The Argentine polo coach is being hired through the good offices of Argentine ambassador in Islamabad, Rodolfo J. Martin-Saravia.

Saravia says he is also in touch with Pakistan Football Federation to arrange a group of Argentine football coaches to teach this game at the schools and colleges level in this country.

He said the Pakistan and Argentina teams would play the first match at Lahore Polo Club on February 19 while the very next day an exhibition match would be held at the same venue with each of the two teams to consist of both the Pakistani and Argentine players.

Saravia said in a recent meeting with Federal Sports Minister Mian Shamim Haider, he had detailed discussions about extending cooperation to Pakistan for the promotion of sports, including the provision of coaches.●
