Soomro for expansion of EOBI
operations in Pakistan

KARACHI: Acting President,
Mohammadmian Soomro Tuesday said that Employees’ Old Age Benefits
Institution (EOBI) should expedite its efforts to provide maximum benefits
and facilities to poor and deserving industrial and commercial workers.
Soomro, who is the Chairman of the Senate, expressed these views in a
meeting with Chairman EOBI, Brig (Retd) Akhtar Zamin, during his visit to
the EOBI Headquarters here.
Acting President urged EOBI officials to provide better services to the
needy people.
Being a pension giving institution, EOBI should expand its ambit and provide
pension and other financial benefits to entire working class of the country,
specially living in the remote and under-developed areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman EOBI, Brig (Retd) Akhtar Zamin gave a
comprehensive pesentation on the functions of the Institution.
Highlighting the recent steps taken for improvement of EOBI’s Pension
Scheme, he said that health insurance scheme for pensioners of EOBI was also
being considered.
The Acting President was informed that the investment rules of EOBI have
been reviewed to further improve its investment policy of the Institution.
Now, for investment in the real estate sector the land was being acquired
only from the government departments, EOBI chief said.
He informed that now all kinds of pension cases were being processed within
30 days.
Chairman EOBI also infomed that EOBI was considering to bring workers
associated with agriculture sector and Overseas Pakistanis under the net of
EOBI.
The Acting President lauded the proposed health insurance scheme of EOBI for
the pensioners.
He also expressed hope that EOBI would continue its efforts to transform
itself as a big shelter for workers and their families in the country.●
