Musharraf’s Peace Mission
By the

WITH a matchless
zest for a durable peace in the volatile vicinities around the globe, with
Kashmir, Palestine and Iraq atop, President Gen. Pervez Musharraf has
set-off a mission to infuse unity among Ummah with an eventual aspire to get
the Muslim World, free from all types of perils.
Of-late, he visited Indonesia and Malaysia to continue his interaction with
the Muslim leaders to build consensus on fresh initiative on the Palestine
issue and to promote unity and harmony in the Ummah.
Significantly, the President is not only making efforts to mobilize a
consensus among the Muslim leaders, he is also disseminating the updates on
the ongoing Confidence Building Measures [CBMs] between India and Pakistan
which, though are moving in a frail style due to New Delhi’s typical and
habitual arrogance, yet are aimed at bringing a lasting peace in South Asia
through the solution of all the issues with Kashmir at the top of list, as
it has been, is, and would continue to remain a core issue between the two
nuke-neighbors till the time it is solved in line with the aspirations of
the people of the Himalayan State of Jammu & Kashmir.
Realistically, President Musharraf’s visit to Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur were
the extension of his consultations with the Saudi, Egyptian, Jordanian,
Syrian and UAE leadership on fresh proposals to seek resolution of the
Palestine issue that is recognized as the root cause of persistent conflict
and bloodshed in the Middle East.
Although the exact nature of the proposals is not clear by now, yet it’s
understood that the initiative is motivated by his keenness to help end the
miseries of the Palestinian people who were forced out of their hearths and
homes and are enduring death and destruction over the past over six decades.
Israel has spared no opportunity to break the Palestinians’ will to win back
their homeland, but it has failed in its heinous designs.
As a matter of fact, like Kashmiris, the Palestinians are waging a heroic
struggle for liberation and are bound to ultimately triumph irrespective of
the amount of sacrifices.
President Musharraf had found positive response from the leadership of the
Arab countries in the course of his interaction on the fresh proposals on
Palestine with them earlier.
A similar response has come from the leadership of Indonesia and Malaysia,
two major non-Arab Muslim countries.
There is, in fact, a growing feeling in the Muslim leadership about the
frivolity of unduly prolonged confrontation and conflict, since the Muslims
are the losers in the ultimate analysis.
It’s, thus, time to take a fresh look at the situation as the old policies
have failed to deliver by all perceptions.
We feel optimistic that President Musharraf’s quest for peace mission would
help steer the Ummah out of the swamp, as he is truthfully striving to end
bloodshed in Palestine and to seek a way out to restore sovereignty and
freedom of the Muslim countries.
Hence, it’s earnestly hoped the entire Muslim countries will endorse the
initiatives of the President of Pakistan, with one-voice and would support
the fresh proposals that he is discussing with the Muslim leadership in best
the interest of the Ummah—in totality with eternal peace as the hallmark.●
