Three killed by suicide attack in Israel

TEL AVIV: Three people were killed by a suicide bomber in a bakery Israel's Red Sea resort of Eilat on Monday, the first such attack inside the Jewish state in nine months, police said.

"After examining the site, we reached the conclusion that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber," the head of the Eilat police told reporters.

Police had earlier said that the blast, which ripped through a bakery in a small shopping centre in Eilat, had been an accident.

"We know so far of three people killed in the explosion and several others injured," a paramedic at the site of the explosion told a foreign news agency.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, the first directed at Eilat, a dive resort which lies at the southern-most tip of Israel on the border with Egypt and Jordan.●
