ISLAMABAD: International
Hockey Federation (FIH) has submitted a draft action plan for the
improvement of this game in that country and will soon present a similar
plan at the level of junior hockey in Pakistan.
“FIH is working on the improvement of junior hockey in our country and will
submit this plan in due course”, said the Secretary of Pakistan Hockey
Federation, former Olympian Akhterul Islam.
He was reacting to reports that FIH has come out with plan for consideration
by Indian Hockey Confederation.
The project “Promotion Indian Hockey” of the International Hockey Federation
(FIH) had been started in cooperation with the Indian Hockey Confederation,
the Indian Olympic Association and IOC Olympic Solidarity.
The plan containing the “areas of concern”, submitted to the Indian Hockey
Federations, will now be discussed early February with State Presidents and
members of the Executive Boards of the Indian hockey bodies after which next
steps can be decided.
The plan, including restructuring of the Indian Federation itself, will also
be discussed by the Indian Hockey Confederation in New Delhi at the end of
January.
Anticipating a positive outcome of the deliberations and in view of the
importance of qualification for the Olympic Games in Beijing for both the
men and women Indian national team, the project leader Bob Davidzon of
Holland has worked out the plan.●
