SC Pakistan directs Provinces, CDA to submit Revised Building Codes
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday expressed displeasure over the delay in revising building codes and directed all the four provincial governments and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to submit copies of revised building codes by February 22.

The court passed the directive while hearing a constitutional petition for compensation by people who lost their flats in the Margalla Tower, which collapsed in the earthquake of October 2005.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad, adjourned the case for March six.

CDA counsel Ch.Muhammad Arif appeared told the bench that the Prime Minister had already constituted a high-powered committee including four federal secretaries and representatives of the affected people for the finalization of a compensation settlement.

The Committee has made recommendations, which are going to be finalized at a meeting scheduled for January 25, the counsel said.●
